Placing the Radiator

This is were I will be placing the radiator:

I first build a frame in which the radiator can be mounted at an angle. Then I placed it in the car en marked where I wanted to cut the firewall. I discovered I had to make the firewall hole so big that the radiator + frame would fit through it. It had to stick out of the hole for a few centimeters to make the yet-to-be-made radiator box clear the rear seat's back rest. Luckily there was a couple of centimeters of space between the firewall and the engine (oil filler neck).
I made the hole a couple of centimeters higher than the radiator + fan to make room for hot air that has to get out.

This is the inside:

And this is how it looks from the back.

You can see here that I had to cut out quite a large piece of firewall. And my radiator isn't even that big.. (about 35 by 65 cm's).; Now I have to finish the radiator frame. It needs "legs" to place it like 5 cm's above the parcel shelf floor. And I want to create some air-deflector tins under the radiator to direct ALL the air through the radiator. After that, I can start making the radiator box and airscoops.

edit 19-02-2006: I finished the radiator frame/airbox. I created an airbox under the radiator, and rivetted it all to the radiator frame. In the floor of this airbox two holes have yet to be made. Through these holes the air will come from under the car.

The radiator is supported by the two round things at the bottom and one point at the top. Rubber is used on all these three mounting points (original alfa at the bottom, a sawn up beetle bump stop at the top). The opening between the radiator and the air box has been filled up with foam strips:

edit 20-05-2007: I removed the floor of the air-box because the cooling system wasn't working, see: Debugging the Cooling System
